Planning your ultimate haunted house experience in St Pete

With so many places offering free or low cost haunted house experiences this time of year it really becomes difficult to set yourself apart from everyone else. Places like Fossil Park, Largo Central Park & Hellview Cemetery have been doing haunted houses in Pinellas county for years, some even decades. In addition to a fairly high entry price tag to be able to compete with these big names you will also need a ton of furniture, props, costumes and actors.

Furniture

It's best if you have some old furniture you were going to get reupholstered anyways but if you have some stuff you are considering throwing away now is a great time to get one last good use out of. If you were thinking of having it upholstered then you could feel free to slash holes through it, soak it in fake blood and even throw it around.

Props

Online is always the best place to find your props as long as your buying from a reputable company. If however you have waited until the last minute and don't have enough time to allow for shipping then Spirit Halloween is going to be one of your best places to go. They have moved in to the old CVS building on 66th St and Park Blvd in St Pete for this year's Halloween. The longer you wait the less selection and sometimes higher price will be what you're stuck with.

Actors

Even if there will be no children at your party you still don't want to ask someone that will give off too creepy of a vibe (unless that's what you're going for). Most middle aged men over 6 feet tall will be able to put a scare in your unsuspecting victims. If you know some that is good with impersonations or has a strong accent then start there.

The three most crucial steps to selecting an upholstery apprentice

Any time you take an apprenticeship it's crucial you spend a great deal of time considering what your going into. Is this something you can do for the rest of your life, or in this day in age the next 15-20 years? Can you tell the difference between a rough draft and a polished piece and truly know and appreciate the skill and effort involved? Once you've made that decision, these three steps will help you along the way.

Safety

On average a typical apprenticeship will last at least a full year but usually closer to three. This is more than enough time to lose all your fingers if your dumb and brave enough. Staying safe can mean just that difference so it's a great practice to perfect your safety precautions until they are second nature. Having skills like always cutting away from yourself, keeping hands firmly clear of all moving needles and scanning the floor for things like extension cords and debris will serve you well and save you from wasting time in the doctors office.

Attention to detail

If you ask any master upholster they will say that the thing that sets you apart in this business is the attention to detail. You must always ensure that every single stitch is exactly where it's meant to be and not slightly off because you were listening to your favorite song on 98Rock. "The customer could care less about whether we used a new machine that's ten times faster, safer or more accurate. They only care about the finished product" -St Petersburg based Upholstery Master

Dedication to the trade and life long learning

"Learning how to do upholstery is a life long education, even after 30 years I'm still learning". Although the core principles are all but set in stone there is constant innovation in materials, tools and techniques. Some of these new offerings end up being a bust while others can revolutionize the way a shop is run and the price tag is not the only contributing factor. Sometimes the simplest of things can actually produce the best results. For instance there was a machine that the salesman wanted $3,000 for and all it did was save us from having to grab the reels of fabric off the shelf and move them 6 feet to the workbench. He said we could try it out for free for thirty days. After about two weeks a customer came and saw the machine and decided we were so technologically advanced that he gave us a $30,000 project. Upholstery is a competitive business as there is always a demand and usually only a handful of shops in the area. Upholstery St Petersburg

It can also extend the life of your boat and in some cases bring it back to show room quality. All for less money and less time than had you just gotten a new one. So do yourself a favor and bring your boat on down to Rayco Upholstery of St Petersburg and save your self some money over getting  a whole new boat cover. 727.487.2926

Don't forget we also do residential upholstery like sofa repair and chair re upholstery. Before you get your sofa reupholstered there a  few things to take into consideration. Chiefly, was it a nice sofa when you got it in the first place and did you buy it new or second hand. Although it's possible to change the fabric and texture of the padding when you get it re upholstered it is not possible to change the frame of the furniture. It's for this reason that you should make sure it's a quality piece of furniture before you begin working on this. Another major consideration is that the furniture probably matches everything else already in your home. It would be a lot cheaper to get just one piece of furniture re upholstered than it would be to buy a whole new set of furniture. Call Rayco Upholstery today to see what they can do for you!
